Almond Eyed Angels
Christmas Week, 2007
Ballet News, Chengdu, China
While visiting China during Christmas vacation, Professor Hook was invited to lecture on ballet to young students at the Chengdu Art Center. The city of Chengdu, in southwest China, is China's Art Center.
Professor Hook, with over 40 years studying, performing, and teaching ballet, thought he had seen it all. In this vast city of Chengdu with over 10 million people and 14 colleges and universities, it was these young Ballerinas that stole the show.
These little Chinese dancers, Almond Eyed Angels (ages 7-11), with twinkle in their toes and sparkle in their eyes, demonstrated 'corp de ballet' feats beyond their years.
