Dancers of Past, Present, and Future Stuart Carroll, childhood friend of Stephen Hook, is now a new Dance Professor at University of California at Davis.
Professor Carroll and Stephen were classmates here in San Diego back in the late ‘70s. Following their studies at United States International University under Erling Sunde (ballet master, Royal Ballet of London) and John Hart (artistic director, Royal Ballet of London) both moved to New York City. Stephen accepted an invitation to join American Ballet Theater, and Stuart moved to Switzerland, and joined Basel Ballet as Soloist.
In the summer of 1984, they traveled to Scandinavia to compete in the International Ballet Competition in Helsinki Finland. There they represented the United States as the only American to advance to the finals.
See accompanying photos of Stuart in Don Quixote, Le Corsaire and in APU, Finland’s national news magazine (similar to our Time/Newsweek).
Currently, Professor Carroll now teaches all levels of ballet at University California at Davis. Also, he Co-Directs Capitol Ballet Company in Sacramento with his wife Sharon Newton. Ms. Newton is the protégé of Gabriela Darvash from the Darvash Ballet School in New York City. She was a Principal dancer in Cincinnati Ballet under the Direction of Ivan Nagy along with Basel Ballet and Arizona Dance Theater. |
